Run your finger along the edges — they should be smooth without major nicks or rust. Check the base for deep gouges or core shots. Light scratches are cosmetic and easily repaired with a wax.
Check where the topsheet meets the edges for any separation or bubbling. Delamination can let moisture into the core and worsen over time. Avoid skis with visible delamination.
